First Day for Kindergarteners

1st Day Was A Success!

Principal's Message

Happy Friday Oak Families,

What a GREAT start to the school year! It has been so wonderful to see our Cougar campus filled with energy, excitement, new friendships, and so much learning already. Our students are settling in, our teachers are building those important classroom communities, and there is a wonderful feeling across campus. And we’re just getting started!

Today was Stay & Play!
Everyone had the opportunity to connect with other Cougar families, enjoy some time together, and let the kids play! A big THANK YOU to our amazing PTA for creating opportunities like this for our community to come together.

Tomorrow is the LASD Community Picnic!

Join families from across the district at Almond Elementary beginning at 5:30pm. It’s another great opportunity to connect, meet new people, and enjoy some time together as an LASD community.

And then on Monday, our Kindness Kickoff begins!

Throughout the next few weeks, we’ll be putting a special spotlight on what it means to be kind, thoughtful, and caring members of our Cougar community. We’ll be looking for kindness in big ways and small—because those little moments really do make a big difference.

This is exactly what being a Cougar is all about:
We Are Kind.
We Are Strong.
We Do Well.

Thank you for helping us start the year with such positive energy and for partnering with us to make Oak a place where every student feels known, valued, and ready to learn.
Have a wonderful weekend, Cougars!
Warmly,
Nikita

Dismissal & After-School Safety

Please remember that we have a staggered release schedule, which means that while some of our younger students are being dismissed, our upper-grade students are still learning.
  • When picking up your child, please wait at the brick area rather than in front of their classroom.
  • Please remind children not to run or play near the classrooms or on the playground while other classes are still in session.

A Few Important Reminders
Late Arrivals & Early Pick-Up:

If your child arrives late, please come into the office to get a blue slip rather than sending your child directly to the classroom. This helps ensure that the office and classroom have accurate information about who is on campus, particularly in the event of an emergency.

Arrival Times
  • Kindergarten–6th Grade: School begins at 8:30 a.m.
  • Transitional Kindergarten (TK): School begins at 8:45 a.m.

Please do not arrive on campus before 8:10 a.m., as there is no student supervision before that time. Students who arrive early will wait in front of the school.

Car Line Reminder
When using the car line:
  • Pull all the way forward before your child exits the car.
  • Please remain in your vehicle.
  • Do not leave your car unattended.
  • Follow the directions of staff and student leaders assisting with arrival and dismissal.

These small steps make a big difference in keeping traffic moving safely and efficiently.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, calm, and positive start and end to each school day!

LAEF Update banner

Let’s get our students off to a strong start and set them up for success this school year. Your financial support is key

Providing an exceptional educational experience for our students requires support beyond public funding. LAEF has been helping close this gap for over 44 years by funding teachers, staff, and essential programs across the district.

Starting this year, LAEF is taking on additional responsibility by fundraising for instructional programs and materials previously supported by PTAs. As a result, LAEF’s fundraising goal and per-student ask are increasing to help ensure consistent, reliable support for these programs at every school. We are grateful for your contributions in helping us meet this increased goal.

YOU are a vital part of this partnership

Your donations to LAEF help every LASD student receive an excellent, well-rounded education by funding specialized teachers and staff as well as instructional materials and programs across all nine schools. Learn more about the funded programs here.
Here’s how to partner with us:
Complete the LASD Back to School process at LASDEducationPartners.org
Step 1: Donate to LAEF
Step 2: Join and donate to the PTA for each school your children attend

PTA Update

✨ Welcome Back, Oak Families!

We’re excited to welcome our new families and students and see all of our returning Oak families back on campus.

This year’s school theme is Spark Joy, and we’re excited to bring that spirit into the PTA through the events, traditions, and everyday moments that bring our community together. Your PTA supports Oak by funding things like teacher classroom stipends, field trip bus transportation, student programs, staff appreciation, and community events.

There are lots of ways to be part of the PTA-from volunteering or joining a committee to becoming a member, sharing an idea, or simply showing up at an event. Every bit of involvement makes a difference - please see below for key info on events & things you should know: LASD Back to School Social at Almond Elementary, Rally Week Kickoff, Volunteer Opportunities and additional info about the district wide volunteer vetting process!

Here’s to a wonderful year ahead and lots of opportunities to Spark Joy at Oak!

Title goes here

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our Back-to-School Social on August 9!

We hope you enjoyed kicking off the new school year by connecting with fellow Oak families, meeting our wonderful PTA team, internal school resources , discovering ways to get involved, and learning more about the after school resources available to our community. We also hope you had a chance to enjoy the blacktop revamp and refresh - and, of course, a little Kona Ice!

So grateful to our hardworking volunteers and Oak staff who helped us pull this all together despite the very busy week!

Save the Date: Rally Week - Aug 24 to 28!
Help us kick off Rally Week - Monday, Aug 24 at Morning Drop-Off 8 to 8:30am - and spread the word about LAEF, PTA Membership and Donations - important ways families can support the district programs, experiences, and community that make Oak special.

We’re looking for 8-10 volunteers to help make morning drop-off fun and engaging! We’ll have QR-code flyers, a little Oak spirit (including costumes and possibly our Cougar mascot!), and lots of excitement to drum up support for our organization!

It’s just 30 minutes of your time - please contact oakptapresident@gmail.com if you’d like to volunteer!

School Spirit at LASD Welcome Back Social!
Please join us at the district-wide Welcome Back Social on Saturday, August 15th, 5:30-7:00 pm at Almond Elementary. Bring your whole family to show off our Oak spirit and connect with friends from across LASD. Grab dinner and treats from the food trucks and Kona Ice, and join games and activities on the playground and fields.

Want to Help? Volunteers Needed!

📣 2 Co-Leads Needed: Oak Walk-a-Thon on Sat, Oct 17
Urgent: We Need Walkathon Co-Chairs!

The Walkathon is a beloved tradition at Oak that combines school spirit and community building with student-driven fundraising. It’s a fun way for Oak students to get active and get involved in raising funds that contribute to Oak PTA events like Field Day, Junior Olympics, Science Fair, and bus transportation for field trips.  Students collect donations or pledges for each lap they commit to walk.  Most importantly, the Walkathon is an opportunity for students to learn about working together and making a difference in their school community.

This year's Walkathon needs YOU! We're looking for parent volunteers to step up as event co-chairs for the pre-planning (starting in September) and leading thru the event date (October 17th) . Without co-chairs, we may need to significantly scale back this year's celebration - and we'd hate to see that happen to such a beloved Oak tradition.  It also is a critical and largest fundraising event for the 1H of our 2026-2027 school year and without support for this event, many of our support to Oak students and staff may be at risk.

If you're organized, enthusiastic, want to help make this year's Walkathon a success, and bring hundreds of smiles to our Oak kiddo’s let us know! Please reach out to Emmanuel Ventadour and Deepti Dubey: oakptapresident@gmail.com if you are interested in a co-chair role!
